About Respiratory Distress Syndrome:  A status of the new born marked by dyspnea with cyanosis, heralded by such prodromal signs as dilatation of the alae nasi, expiratory dilatation, and retraction of the suprasternal notch or costal margins, mostly frequently occurring in premature babies, children of diabetic mothers, and babies delivered by cesarean section, and also sometimes having no apparent predisposing cause.
